A squirrel and a forest

(1) If a tree falls in a forest and no ears are there to hear it, does it make a “sound”.

(2) A squirrel sits on the stump of a tree in a forest.  A hunter circles the squirrel.  As the hunter circles the squirrel, the squirrel keeps turning to face the hunter.  Has the hunter “gone around” the squirrel?

(1) It depends what you mean by the word “sound”.    It's a question of semantics, and may be a problem for the forest.

(2) It all depends upon what is meant by the word ‘around’.   It's also a question of semantics, and a problem for the squirrel.

We argue about definitions al the time, without realising that we are doing so.   For example, what does "informed" mean ?   What does "clear" mean ?
